Real Lives >> Adaly Rosado, Jr.

“I first started thinking about the Priesthood when I was about 17 years old. One day I was just lying down on my couch watching TV and I saw myself in my mind lifting the Host as if I were a priest. The next day I went to confession, and after confession, I asked the priest how he knew he wanted to be a priest.

He answered all the questions I had and agreed to become my spiritual director.

As time went on I felt more and more called to the priesthood. I even traveled around the country visiting various seminaries and religious orders and praying. One of the places I visited was in Queens. It was a Redemptorists Seminary and they were having a retreat which included the 40 Hours Eucharistic Adoration of St. Alphonsus Lugiori. I prayed in front of our Eucharistic Lord and I told him all the reasons why I was afraid of entering the Seminary. I said, "Lord I’m afraid. I’ve never lived away from my parents and I’ll have to leave home to enter the seminary." Then the thought came into my mind that eventually my parents will retire and move; I wouldn’t live with them forever. Then I said, "Lord I’ve never lived away from my twin brother." The thought came into my mind that he eventually would get married and move away. Then I said, "OK Lord, but I can’t afford the tuition at St. John’s University." Immediately into my mind came the thought that I shouldn’t worry about these types of things. During that hour I spent with the Lord He made it clear to me that He wanted me to be His priest and that He wanted me to be here in New York.

The next day the Redemptorists vocation director called me into his office. I thought what could I have possibly done to get kicked out of the retreat so soon. I went to him and he told me that he was in the back of that chapel and saw me praying. He could tell something happened there. I told him what happened and he made me promise that I would apply to New York. I did and it has been great!"
